The perspective and graphics hide the fact that it is most definitely a walking sim. Oxenfree - Probably my second favorite game of all time. I personally didn't care for it, but I didn't really enjoy Life is Strange, and from what I can tell, people that enjoy Life is Strange almost overwhelmingly enjoy Night in the Woods. Night in the Woods - More of a slice of life, emotional game than really a standard walking sim. Mutazione - This is going to skew a lot close to something like Life is Strange or Night in the Woods than a standard walking sim. The conceit of the game would definitely wear out it's welcome if it was longer than it is. Metamorphosis - It's fine, I mostly included it for completeness. Maize - Probably the only comedy walking sim I've ever played. Not exactly a walking sim, but definitely a very emotional game. Honestly I found it pretty boring, but maybe you'd enjoy it. Kentucky Route Zero - This game is very unique, I've heard it described as almost like an arthouse game, which I guess I can see. The sound track for this game is also particularly amazing. The story is much more abstract than most walking sims, but it is still an extremely good and emotional experience. Journey - Alongside Gone Home, Journey had a major part in basically inventing this genre. I could never get into it, but maybe you'd enjoy it. Her Story - A LOT of people really adore this game. It might come off as a bit basic now days as it's been copied and iterated on so much, but it's still very good. Gone Home - This is like the original walking simulator. First one took me less than 3 hours, not sure on the second as I played it on Gamepass.įirewatch - You've already played it, you know. There is a sequel that's okay, but not nearly as good as the original IMO.įAR: Lone Sails & FAR: Changing Tides - I really liked these games, but again I can see how someone might find them boring. I've put 40+ hours into it, but I've beaten it 3 times now. Plus it's currently 2 dollars on Steam, which is an absolute steal. The Fall this one isn't a walking simulator, but it's such a good game I felt like including it. Again, definitely get it on sale.Įverybody's Gone to the Rapture - Also good, though I can definitely how someone could find it boring, as you're essentially wondering around an empty town after everyone else disappeared. I still mean to get back to this at some point.Įvent - It's okay, some people really like it, personally I found the mechanic of talking with the computer got pretty old pretty fast. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist - Also good, also EXTREMELY short (less than an hour), but it's freeĮther One - This game is really good, but I never finished it for some reason. Earth is reliant on resources being sent back from the moon, when one day all communications from the moon stop, and all resources stop coming in. Apparently it only took me 46 minutes to beat, but it's $2.49 on Steam right now so I guess that's your call.ĭeliver us the Moon - I really liked this one. Probably the closest game to Stanley Parable.ĭear Ester I remember this game being fine. The Corridor - It's good, it's short, it's cheap. The Beginner's Guide - Good, surprisingly emotional, extremely short.īlackwood Crossing - Good game, very short (<2 hours for me), get it on saleĬall of the Sea - This is more of a puzzle game like Myst than a traditional walking sim, but the story is so good I felt like including it.Ĭlose to the Sun - A little more mediocre than some of the other games on this list IMO, but it's still worth checking out if you've got the time. Probably play Journey first to see if you'd enjoy this game. Anyhoo, in alphabetical order:Ībzu - It's basically Journey, but underwater. I started making notes about how long the games where and whether I thought they were worth the money, but that fell off pretty quickly, sorry. I'll go down my Steam and whatnot and see if I can find some more. Kholat was not very good imo, it's also much more horror than most walking sim's.
